The Womens' Center of Montgomery County is committed to the goals of helping women and working to effect social change for the betterment of women. The center seeks to meet these goals through supportive counseling programs, advocacy programs, and educational programs that teach women skills and increase awareness of their rights and responsibilities.
Description:
We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities including court accompaniment, peer counseling, support groups, hot-line counselors, community education or receptionist just to name a few. Our volunteers are required to take a 45 hour domestic violence training before volunteering at one of our five offices. For current the current training schedule contact the office at 610-279-1548.
History:
We began as a grass roots movement. We have grown from forty members meeting in borrowed quarters at the Abington Library to over 650 members with five separate locations to serve the county. In the beginning we helped women deal with separation and divorce, abuse and child care. These issues continue to be addressed along with any others you can imagine that effect women's lives. The Womens Center continues to be a place where women get help and support and then give it back tenfold.
