Parkhouse Providence Pointe is a skilled nursing center, home to 450 residents, owned and operated by Montgomery County. "Quality Care is our Primary Concern".

Description:
Parkhouse Providence Pointe is located on 325 acres in rural Montgomery County. We are dedicated to serving individuals with various needs to promote health, growth, dignity, and quality of life. Individual and group volunteers are an integral part of our care team, bringing in a variety of special programs and visits to our residents.

Our residents' lives are brightened by volunteer visits! You can be a "Friendly Visitor", coming in to visit residents to play a game, share life stories, or go outdoors. Activities Department staff appreciate volunteer help for transporting residents to their favorite musical or religious programs on weekdays and weekends. Volunteers are also needed to help with Glee Club, Pinochle Club, and Sewing Circle.

History:
We first opened as the "almshouse" in 1808. Over the years our name has changed to the Charles Johnson Home, then Montgomery County Geriatric and Rehabilitation Center. In 2005, with the addition of Riverview Adult Day Health Services and Montgomery Meadows Independent Living Suites to our campus, our name was changed to Parkhouse. Providence Pointe is our skilled nursing center. In 2008 we have been celebrating our 200th anniversary!

Overall Experience    Experience rating
A wonderful opportunity to help others and a very rewarding experience.
How did this all start? Why did I decide to do volunteer work and why this facility? One day I found myself thinking about my life and various accomplishments, and wondered if I have made a difference. Has my life mattered? I began to realize there was something missing, something unfulfilled. The answer came to me in the most unexpected of places...visiting a friend's mother in a nursing home. This is what happened. As I sat next to my friend's mom, I noticed a resident struggling to get out of a chair. I went over to assist. She looked up at me with a big smile and thanked me. I began to realize what was missing, the gratification of helping others. I felt comfortable here, contented. So began my volunteering. There was no doubt in my mind where to start. It would be Parkhouse Providence Pointe (Montgomery County, PA). The staff is friendly and helpful, the environment clean and the atmosphere pleasing and comfortable. It is easy to make friends here. The activities for the residents are numerous and they always need volunteers to assist. I am very active as a volunteer, escorting wheelchair-bound residents to programs, a friendly visitor to several residents and so on. I try to help where ever and whenever I can. I enjoy occasionally accompanying a resident on an outing, taking time off from my full time job to do this. It's a lot of fun. Volunteering at Parkhouse has enriched my life in many ways. It has added a different perspective to my thinking and has broadened my relationship with other people. I have made a mark on my little corner of the world. I have helped people by making them feel special each time I wheel them to church or just talking with them. I have shown them a smiling face when they perhaps needed it the most. Parkhouse is a good facility with a lot of good people. This is the best decision I have ever made.
