To provide a pleasant & natural environment towards enhancing the physical, emotional, and cognitive abilities of disabled children and young adults through the experience of equestrian therapy.

Description:
Reins of Life offers therapeutic horseback riding for children and young adults with special needs ages 2-25, March through December, in Chester County, PA.

Volunteers are needed to assist with the horses and our riders during their equine assisted therapy sessions. Work alongside the instructor and the rider as a side-walker, or leader of the horse/pony. Bring a smile to the face of the child while helping them make their riding experience exciting and rewarding. Help get horses groomed and tacked up. We welcome your enthusiasm and your desire to help make a difference. Training is available on-goingly. see our web site for further details.

Volunteers are also needed in other ways to help with special events such as horse shows, a paper chase, or trail ride challenge, live and silent auction benefit, golf outings, and information tables at horse shows. You can opt to be on a committee or assist with mailings, offer administrative support, filing, children's projects. Let us know which volunteer activity you'd like to help us with. We can accommodate your interests.
Experience not required, but surely welcomed.

History:
Reins of Life was founded October 8, 1993 for the purpose of providing therapeutic horseback riding for children and young adults with special needs. The organization is a 501 c 3 non-profit corporation. Reins of Life leases the use of private owned horse farms for our therapeutic horseback riding program to serve families in multiple areas of the community. Often a special needs child can not drive for long distances, so having a program more convenient to his home is a blessing. With this concept Reins of Life can serve communities in other nearby cities as well, and we're hopeful for a Wilmington, DE location by 2008.
We have found that not only can we serve more clients in this unique way, we are also able to keep our general operating expenses to a minimal as a result of not owning the horses or the land.
