Riverbend Environmental Education Center teaches environmental principles to children through a direct connection with nature, inspiring respect for the natural world and action as environmentally aware, responsible and caring citizens.

Description:
Riverbend is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation serving more than 12,000 visitors annually in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Riverbend’s innovative, hands-on school, scout, camp and family programs inspire a youngster’s understanding, respect and love for our natural world.

Since 1974, Riverbend Environmental Education Center has been enriching the lives of children and families through engaging environmental education. From its beginnings as a quiet nature preserve, Riverbend has evolved to a thriving center for environmental education that touches the lives of nearly 12,000 people annually. Whether it is to participate in a public program or just to wander on our trails, a visit to Riverbend offers families a quiet place to relax, unwind and observe the wonders of nature.

At Riverbend, kids can just be kids again, free to dig, touch, build, explore and discover the natural world around them. We believe a steady supply of sunshine, dirt & water are essential ingredients for healthy, happy children. And we are not alone; a growing body of evidence supports the idea that exposure to nature comprises a vital part of children’s physical, emotional and mental well-being. It is our way of grower greener children for a brighter future.

History:
Riverbend was created in 1974 by the Wood family, who donated 30 acres of property in Gladwyne, PA. The center is housed in a 1923 Sears and Roebuck barn. The center gets its name from the bend in the Schuylkill River where it is located.
