The Pathway School develops and implements innovative, quality programs and services that enrich the lives of children and young adults with special needs. Pathway builds the independence of its students in a nurturing and challenging environment that best prepares them for life after Pathway.

Description:
Pathway has an annual student enrollment of nearly 170, accepting students whose needs cannot be appropriately met by their local school districts. Common diagnoses of Pathway students include: Pervasive Developmental Disorder (mostly Autistic Spectrum Disorder), Tourette’s Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, anxiety and mood disorders, neurological impairment, and other neuropsychiatric disorders. To maximize each student’s educational and/or residential benefits, Pathway develops an Individual Education Plan (IEP) that serves as a contract with local school districts which outlines each student’s program including goals and specific techniques we will use to help the student learn.

Although Pathway students exhibit myriad combinations of problems and diagnoses, they share the need for a special education environment in which to grow and learn. While many students require a one-on-one relationship with educators and counselors, others need a 24-hour residential and educational setting. The latter reside at Pathway because their presenting problems demand consistency in a therapeutic environment where issues such as social interaction, self-care and independence can be addressed. Approximately one third of Pathway’s students are residential either on-campus or in our Community Living Program.

Students come to Pathway from more than 11 states and 53 school districts in Pennsylvania. Seventy-five percent of Pathway’s students are male and 25% female, reflecting the typical gender representation of these presenting problems in the population at large.

History:
The Pathway School is a non-profit, approved private school providing educational, residential, and clinical services to students ages 9 to 21 with special needs. Founded in 1961, Pathway was the first school in the Philadelphia area designed exclusively for the learning disabled child and the first in the nation to unify the disciplines of psychology, psychiatry, medicine, social work, and educational instruction.

Directions:

From PA Turnpike (Valley Forge Exit #326 – old exit #24): Exit at Valley Forge Interchange (exit #326). Follow signs for 422 west. It is important that you watch these signs for 422 West. Once on 422 West, travel for 2.5 miles and exit onto Route 363 North (Audubon/Trooper Exit). Proceed 5 traffic lights. At the 5th light make a right onto Egypt Road. The entrance to The Pathway School will be approximately 1 mile down the road on the right hand side. (You will pass through two traffic lights before you get to Pathway’s entrance). From PA Turnpike (Norristown Exit #333 – old exit 25): Exit at the Norristown Interchange (exit #333). Proceed to the end of the exit ramp. At the light make a Left and proceed 500 feet up to the next Traffic Light. Make a right onto Germantown Pike (the Plymouth Meeting Mall will be on your immediate right). Travel Germantown Pike several miles till you pass a Woody’s Golf Center on your right. Once you have passed this landmark go to the light immediately after and Make left onto Whitehall Road. Proceed 3 traffic lights and at the 3rd one make a right onto Ridge Pike/Main Street. Go 2 traffic lights and make a left onto Egypt Road. The Pathway School will be approx. ½ mile down the road on your left side. From Route 76/Schyulkill Express Way (from Philadelphia) Take 76 West to 422 West. Once you have taken this exit please pay close attention to Road Signs. They will direct you onto 422 West. Once on 422 West, proceed 2.5 miles and exit onto 363 North (Audubon/Trooper Exit). Follow 476 North (Blue Route – Sign will Say Plymouth Meeting) till you come to Route 76 West - exit onto. Travel on Route 76 West to Route 422 West. It is important that you follow Green Information signs to 422 West at this point. Once on 422 West, travel for 2.5 miles and exit onto Route 363 North (Audubon/Trooper Exit). Proceed 5 Traffic lights. At the 5th light make a right onto Egypt Road. The entrance to The Pathway School will be approximately 1 mile down the road on the right hand side. (You will pass through two traffic lights before you get to Pathway’s entrance). From Points West via Route 422 East 422 East to the Audubon/Oaks Exit. Bear right when exiting and you will merge with Egypt Road. Continue on Egypt Road and cross over Trooper Road and continue on Egypt Road (the Mobil Gas Station will be on your left side when you cross over).
