Camphill Soltane provides a transition to adulthood for young people with developmental disabilities, ages 18-25.
Description:
Camphill Soltane is a life-sharing community of 80 people, including 40 young adults with special needs. Long term volunteers, called coworkers, live and work in our community, participating in a broad range of artistic, educational, and recreational activities. At Soltane, we practice Youth Guidance, leading young adults towards a sense of self and an awareness of their participation as a contributing member in the fellowship of humankind. We do this through a three-fold process of "learning, working, and living".
History:
Camphill is an international movement with over 100 communities in 20 countries around the world. Founded by Karl Konig in 1939 in Scotland, Camphill strives to create a unique community that includes people with special needs. We believe every person, regardless of handicap, needs friendship, a social environment, meaningful work, and opportunity for artistic expression to reach his or her potential.
