Description:
The Domestic Violence Center of Chester County helps victims of domestic abuse find safety and build self-sufficient lives. Services include: 24-hour hotlines answered by trained victims-adovcates, emergency and transitional safe housing, legal services, children's services, community outreach and education. Bilingual (Spanish/English) outreach and services are available.

History:
The Domestic Violence Center of Chester County, Inc. is the oldest organization in Chester County providing services exclusively for victims of domestic violence. To date, the Center has served over 15,000 victims of domestic violence. The Center was founded in 1976 by a small group of grassroots activists and volunteers as the Women's Resource Center an information and referral service. Due to the number of calls from battered women during its early years, the organization redefined its mission to focus on domestic violence intervention and prevention. In the 1980's the Domestic Violence Center began to operate an emergency shelter for battered women and their children in a building owned by what is now the YWCA of Chester County. When the building was sold the Domestic Violence organized a capital campaign which culminated in the purchase of our current main site.

Today, the agency has grown into a dynamic organization with a staff of 32 and a corps of volunteers working in creative and diverse ways to help domestic violence victims and their children find safety and build self-sufficient lives. There are satellite offices in Kennett Square and Coatesville.

DVCCC remains the only agency in the county providing services exclusively for victims of domestic abuse, and the only one with a contract from the Pensylvania Department of Public Welfare to provide these services.
