The Kennett Area Senior Center is committed to preserving and enhancing the dignity and well-being of all adult residents of southern Chester County by providing a vital assortment of services that enrich social relationships, foster physical health, encourage educational interests and promote self-reliance.

Description:
Kennett Area Senior Center provides programs and services to promote physical and mental health and independence for as long as possible. Programs range from physical exercises and cognitive stimulation activities to socialization and nutrition.
Vision Statement: The Kennett Area Senior Center will be the bond between individuals and their community through families, friends, and society as a whole in stimulating and creative endeavors within a safe setting and a familiar facility.

History:
The seeds of the Kennett Area Senior Center were planted in 1971 when the Rotary Club of Kennett Square responded to an idea of club member Dr. Leonard Kanofsky regarding the perceived need for organized activities by the community's elderly residents. With a charter membership of 89 people the Rotary Senior Center began group meetings January 17, 1972. A board of directors was formed in 1974 and they renamed the center the Kennett Area Senior Center. It continued to grow adding programs and services. In 1979 a new funding source run by volunteers became the Senior Center Used Book Store. Today the Book Shoppe continues to be a great success as the Kennett Square Resale Book Shoppe in its new and third location at 113 S. Union Street. As the center continued to grow it became necessary to find a property to accommodate the needs of the Senior Center. This was accomplished within 6 months on January 12, 1986 and by September 1987, the building was debt free. The pride of the project was accomplishing the goal without any government funding or assistance. In January 2005 the name was changed to LIFE Center as a means of attracting new members from the 50-65 age group. This was not a successful strategy and on November 29, 2006, the Board of Directors changed the name back to Kennett Area Senior Center, which is preferred by the seniors who are members of the center.
