Our mission is to assure the appointment of a volunteer advocate for each child adjudicated dependent by the Delaware County Court System and to facilitate safe, secure, and permanent placement.

Description:
Each year, more than 1000 abused and neglected children are at risk of becoming lost within the overburdened child welfare system. They may spend years moving from one temporary home to another, with no family to call their own. Too often, the courts must make difficult, life-altering decisions about where children must live, based on limited information. CASA's mission is provide the court with much-needed information about these children. Our trained volunteers are dedicated to ensuring that these vulnerable children find safe, nurturing, and permanent homes as quickly as possible.

History:
In 1977, Judge David Soukup, a Superior Court judge in King County, Washington began looking for ways to make certain that he had enough information to make an informed decision that would be in each child's best interest. He turned toward volunteer advocates. That idea has led to the creation of more than 900 CASA programs nationwide, using 42,400 volunteers to help 164,000 children annually. In Delaware County, CASA/Youth Advocates, Inc. originated as a program to help with juvenile delinquency. In 1992 Youth Advocates was changed to a CASA program and we have grown from serving 26 children in that first year to serving 186 children in 2004.
