Mission: RSVP promotes volunteerism, particularly among persons 55+, and provides opportunities for them to pursue their interests and use their abilities to help meet the critical needs of Montgomery County.

Description:
RSVP's volunteers are age 55 and older, and live in Montgomery County, PA. Whether helping youngsters discover the joys of reading, providing a helping hand to homebound elders, mentoring a child, or developing personnel policies for nonprofits, RSVP volunteers share a common bond: an eagerness to continue to play a role and be productive within their communities. Training is provided, where needed. Many opportunities have flexible hours to accommodate volunteers' schedules.

Since 1973, RSVP has met the needs of the community by creating twelve unique and specific programs partnering seniors with challenging and rewarding service opportunities within their communities.

History:
RSVP, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Montgomery County, was established in 1973 with support from ACTION and a grant from Family Services of Montgomery County. The first office was launched on the Main Line with four volunteers. Pottstown and Norristown offices followed. By the end of 1973, programs were operating in both the Lansdale and Abington areas. In January 1974, RSVP gained its sixth regional presence in the county, when an office was opened in the Perkiomen Valley.
From the outset, RSVP's five area Field Coordinators have worked closely with local organizations to develop interesting volunteer assignments, and best utilize the talents and experience of volunteers.

In 1979, RSVP of Montgomery County, Inc., became one of only 30 of approximately 750 RSVP 'projects' nationwide, to become self-sponsored and incorporated. While the change in status challenged the program to raise a significant percentage of its funding annually, it also allowed RSVP the freedom to create special programs to meet the unique needs of Montgomery County and be governed by its own Board of Directors.
