The Fair Housing Council is a private, non-profit group working since 1956 to promote freedom of residence. Under federal law it is illegal for a housing agent or provider to discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, or disability. The Council tests for compliance with fair housing laws in Delaware, Montgomery, Chester, Philadelphia and Bucks counties.

Description:
The Fair Housing Council provides the following: Education on how to detect housing discrimination, and the rights and remedies provided by fair housing law.
Compliance consulting to the housing industry on non discriminatory practices and procedures.
Testing and investigations in the rental, sale, financing and insuring of housing to support allegations of persons who believe that they were denied housing due to discrimination, and to communities who suspect that they are being redlined.
Litigation support to empower individuals to confront and eradicate housing discrimination, and to ensure that communities have equal access to homeowners insurance and mortgage products.
Partnerships with consumer groups, social service organizations, municipal and county governments, and federal enforcement agencies.
