HEARTH (Helping Elderly Adults Remain in Their Homes)

  • Family Services seeks to strengthen the quality of life for individuals, families, and the community and to provide preventive intervention and essential support during times of need.
  • Description:
Project HEARTH (Helping Elderly Adults Remain in Their Homes) is a program of Family Services. Based in Family Services' Pottstown and Lansdale offices, HEARTH seeks to maintain the autonomy and independence of adults over the age of 60 in the Lansdale, Pottstown, Royersford, North Penn, and Lower Perkiomen areas of Pennsylvania by linking them with individual or group volunteers from the community.

HEARTH provides social and emotional support to clients through in-home professional counseling and the opportunity to be linked with volunteers who can provide assistance with grocery shopping, transportation to appointments, help with paperwork (bills, insurance, etc.) and minor home repairs. HEARTH generally provides temporary or short-term assistance and does not offer any type of professional medical/personal care services.

    History:
Family Services is a private, non-profit multi-service agency serving Montgomery County residents since 1900. It originated from a group of concerned citizens in local churches and other community organizations who joined together to help people help themselves. Family Services has four branches located throughout the county. Project HEARTH was begun in 1994, and functions primarily through volunteer efforts.
