As the only domestic violence agency in Bucks County, Pa., A Woman’s Place (AWP) provides a full range of assistance and support services for domestic violence survivors and their children, including a free 24-hour confidential hotline, a full-service residential shelter, individual and group counseling, legal and medical advocacy, and a children’s program. As domestic violence is a societal problem affecting everyone in a community, AWP also provides comprehensive community-based domestic violence awareness and prevention training, education, outreach, and advocacy.

A Woman’s Place (AWP) provides free, private, confidential, and comprehensive shelter, service, support, education, outreach, and advocacy for victims/survivors of domestic violence and their children and the community. All services can be accessed by calling AWP’s 24-hour hotline at 1.800.220.8116. 24-hour Hotline: 1.800.220.8116 Free, private, and confidential, AWP’s 24-hour hotline is available to anyone in the community who has questions about any issue relating to domestic violence. Callers can receive counseling, information, and referrals. Calls to the hotline will not appear on your phone bill. Shelter AWP provides a safe place for victims of domestic violence and thier children whose safety is being threatened by an intimate partner. The shelter’s location is confidential and secure, with a staff person on duty 24-hours a day. Counseling Counseling is available for persons being abused by an intimate partner. Individual and group counseling, for adults and children, is availble in the shelter and at locations throughout Bucks County. Children's Project Children’s Advocates provide individual and group counseling as well as structured activities to children residing at the shelter. Legal Advocacy Project AWP provides support and advocacy for persons seeking reprieve through the legal system. Assistance is available in filing Protection From Abuse Orders, and advocates accompany persons to all court proceedings. First Response Team First Response advocates provide crisis counseling, safety planning, and information immediately following an incident of domestic violence to victims who request these services. Medical Advocacy Project AWP's Medical Advocacy Project is on the forefront of training and advocacy in Bucks County's healthcare system. Medical advocates provide training for healthcare workers and staffs at area hospitals and clinics. Prevention Education Project AWP's Prevention Education Staff presents programs at the elementary, middle, and high school levels throughout Bucks County. Community Education Presentations and materials are available to community and professional groups to provide information about domestic violence. Full Circle Thrift Store Located in the Towne Centre Shopping Center in New Britain, Pa., the Full Circle Thrift Store features a great selection of women’s, men’s, and children’s gently used clothing and accessories. A variety of gently used household items are also for sale. Donations also are accepted at this location. For store hours and donation times, call the Full Circle Thrift Store at 215.340.0120. All proceeds from the store benefit A Woman’s Place. Full Circle also participates in the Student Transition Employment Program, providing retail training for special needs students in the Central Bucks School District.
History:
Founded in 1976 as a storefront, drop-in domestic violence counseling center in Sellersville, Pa., AWP has continued to grow and provide advocacy and services throughout Bucks County and beyond. A Woman’s Place, its staff, volunteers, and supporters all envision and remain committed to achieving a community free of violence and abuse.
