Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic, a nonprofit volunteer organization, is the nation's educational library serving people who cannot effectively read standard print because of visual impairment, dyslexia or other physical disability. Our mission is to create opportunities for individual success by providing, and promoting the effective use of, accessible educational materials. Our vision is for all people to have equal access to the printed word.
Description:
RFB&D - Philadelphia depends on volunteers at our King of Prussia studio to produce textbooks in audio format. Our volunteers prepare, record and produce academic material on CD for students from kindergarten through post-graduate work as well as material for individuals to keep up with developments in their career fields. Volunteers are also actively involved in educational outreach efforts, working with teachers and learning institutions to promote awareness of RFB&D's services and provide training in the effective use of RFB&D's AudioPlus CDs.
History:
Founded in 1948 by Anne T. Macdonald, Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic has been helping people with print disabilities complete their educations, advance their careers and increase their self esteem for nearly 60 years. A study conducted by Johns Hopkins University revealed a 38% increase in content acquisition for students with learning disabilities who use RFB&D's AudioPlus digitally recorded textbooks on CD.
