To provide housing for sale or rent to low income and homeless families and to assist them in becoming self-sufficient.
Description:
The program has four components:
- counseling for potential homeowner; b) matching funding sources with homes; c) recruiting volunteer support for rehabilitation; d) provision of furniture/household supplies for new home.
History:
IHDC was founded in 1987 by a group of four churches concerned with the availability of affordable housing for low income families in Lower Bucks County. Over the past 14 years, IHDC has grown into a coalition of twenty-nine Protestant, Catholic, Quaker, and Jewish congregations all working together to provide affordable housing opportunities in their communities. The participation of member organizations is integral to the operation of the organization. The crucial role of the local community is also evident in the day to day work of the organization. Over 500 volunteers from various congregations, corporations, schools, and civic associations participate in IHDC activities by assisting with housing rehabilitation and construction, providing assistance to families, and operating the IHDC furniture/construction warehouse. IHDC does not discriminate according to race, religion, gender, disability or sexual orientation. Through its activities, IHDC has united a large segment of the community around a concern for providing affordable housing opportunities in Lower Bucks County.
