The Camden City Garden Club is a non-profit (501)(c)(3) environmental organization that was established in 1985. It was formed to assist Camden City residents with community gardening. The impact of the Garden Club has steadily grown with the addition of new programs. In 1989 Grow Lab was started. In 1994, the Summer Youth Job Training program was initiated. The Garden Club began exhibiting in the Philadelphia Flower Show in 1997 and in 1999, after 5 years of planning and fund raising, the Camden Children’s Garden was opened. Mission of the Camden City Garden Club: The mission of the Camden City Garden Club is to provide horticulture based recreational and educational opportunities for residents of all ages of the City of Camden and the Delaware Valley.
Description:
The four-acre, interactive Garden features themed gardens, and educational exhibits including the Philadelphia Eagles Four Seasons Butterfly House, Plaza de Aibonito Tropical Exhibit and Benjamin Franklin. Enjoy entertainment in our Amphitheatre and three amusement rides: Commerce Carousel, Arrow River Train, and Spring Butterfly Ride. The Garden offers educational lessons, birthday parties, and festivals.
History:
The GrowLab, an outreach program is in inter city as well as suburban schools, uses a mini greenhouses teaches children horticulture, environmental science and math skills through its "hands on" program. This program was established in 1991. In 1999 the Camden Children's Garden (CCG) opened to provide interactive gardens for children of all age. The organization provides monthly events for children, using crafts, games with fun, food and music to enlighten and teach about plants, flowers,gardening and our environment. The CCG has had an exhibit at the Philadelphia Show for the past ten years
