The Council provides resources and opportunities to reduce the impact of addiction and to improve related health issues for the entire community. We accomplish this through prevention, consultation, education, advocacy, assessment, intervention and treatment services.
Description:
The following is a list of programs offered by The Council: BEACON - employee assistance services. BRIDGES - Advocacy, outreach and intervention services for Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, transgender and questioning communities. Clearinghouse - Pennsylvania's 2nd largest resource for alcohol and other drug prevention materials. DUI - Driving Under The Influence program. Family Program - advocacy, education, assistance & support for families of addicted adults or children. Hotline - Southeastern PA State alcohol and other drug information, referral, Advocacy Hotline 800-221-6333. intervention Program - Nationally Certified Interventionists assist families to conduct successful interventions. Juvenile Awareness Program - This program is designed to help young people identify and change harmful patterns of alcohol and other drug use before they lead to more serious problems. MOMS - (Mothers Overcoming Mood-altering Substances) outreach and referral program. PRO-ACT (Pennsylvania Recovery Organization-Achieving Community Together) - grassroots initiative reducing stigma & developing activities for the recovery community. SAP (Student Assistance Program) - School Services. TASC - Treatment Accountability for Safer Communities Tobacco Projects - providing technical assistance to groups and organizations regarding policy and tobacco use cessation; SYNAR surveys; reducing youth access to tobacco and children's exposure to tobacco smoke pollution; reducing smoking in the worksite; and counter marketing activities. Awareness Campaigns and Special events: Pumpkinfest - Held every October since 1990, in recognition of Red Ribbon Week. Tree of Hope - Held every December since 1990, The Council's Tree of Hope challenges stigma and recognizes individuals who have made an impact in the struggle against alcohol and other drugs abuse and/or addiction.
History:
In 1974. in response to a deeply felt community need, a citizen study group recommended the formation of a local affiliate of the National Council on Alcoholism (NCA). In 1975 the Bucks County Council on Alcoholism received its State of Pennsylvania Charter from the Commonwealth. We have since changed our name to "Bucks County Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc." otherwise known as "The Council."
