The Mission of Moorestown Visiting Nurse Association (MVNA) is to provide community health care services that promote health, independence, and dignity; to teach people to care for themselves and each other; and to provide skilled home care services to our patients in need regardless of their ability to pay.
Description:
Moorestown VNA is the premier home care agency in our market. Independent and fully accredited, we are solidly entrenched in Burlington, Camden and Gloucester Counties. Because we are innovative and responsive in meeting our clients' needs and maximize the resources we have, we consistently meet and exceed the expectation of those we serve. Honest and ethical in all that we do, we are above all else caring, competent and reliable. We are active partners with other community organizations and have grown, and continue to grow, based on community needs. Because we help other health care providers recognize and appreciate the value of home care and work hard to rekindle old relationships with both staff and customers, we have created many new opportunities. As importantly, we have always been willing and able to reinvent ourselves in order to keep our core services available to our neighbors. We have a stable workforce with a meshing of values between each employee and their agency. Our staff is expert and experienced and we continue to attract and retain the best and brightest people available. These people actively contribute to our profession's body of knowledge. People enjoy working for Moorestown VNA and consider themselves to be part of a cohesive team with a clear and common culture. Being financially sound and profitable, Moorestown VNA's long-term future is ensured for the next 100 years. As a result, we expect to be able to continue to help create independence for our patients and to provide skilled home care services to our patients in need regardless of their ability to pay.
History:
A commitment rich in the ideals it was founded upon...Moorestown Visiting Nurse Association (MVNA) was founded in 1904 by Mrs. Alfred W. Sumner with the support of the Moorestown Women's Club (then known as the Current Events Club). In those beginning days, the expenses of the Moorestown VNA were paid through generous contributions from members of the community. Nursing visits were thought of in a way consistent with our current VNA philosophy of providing needed care regardless of the patient's ability to pay. Miss Ida Croft was employed as the first visiting nurse. She lived in the Sumner home, located at 16 East Main Street where the Community House now stands. Miss Croft was paid $25 per month plus free room, board and laundry. "It is to Miss Croft, a graduate of the Women's Homeopathic Hospital of Philadelphia in 1894, that we owe the firm foundation of which the VNA in Moorestown is established and to her we should forever be grateful." The Moorestown Community House became the Agency's first home when it was completed in 1926, and remained its home until 1994 when it moved to a location on Pleasant Valley Avenue in Mt. Laurel. In November of 2003, the Agency moved to a modern office in Marlton. During those interim years, the association entered into agreements with insurance companies to provide nursing services and assisted mothers to deliver their babies at home. It became legally incorporated in 1932. The Agency went on to add school nursing services and Well-Baby Clinics, and was instrumental in founding the Public Health Nursing Association of Burlington County, known today as Community Nursing Services. Other achievements of the Agency include being a major promoter of the mass immunization program with the Sabin oral polio vaccine and the founding of the Hospice of Burlington County (now Samaritan Hospice). In 1966, Moorestown Visiting Nurse Association merged with Visiting Nurse Service of Riverton, Cinnaminson and Palmyra and became full certified for Medicare in 1967. Soon after becoming a countywide agency in 1987, the Agency underwent a corporate reorganization. Visiting Nurse Association Home Care (VNAHC) became the parent and administrative company with Moorestown VNA and Partners In Home Care, Inc. as the two affiliated companies. In late 1995, the Agency opened an office in Philadelphia to begin serving patients throughout Philadelphia County. The following year brought additional growth with the opening of our Ocean County, New Jersey office providing private duty nursing, home health aide and companion services to county residents. In December of 1999, MVNA returned to it geographic roots and closed its Philadelphia office. It also expanded its Medicare and Medicaid services in Camden County. The Agency looks forward to its second century and to fulfilling the expanded health care needs of our communities.
