The Center for Literacy's mission is to provide a range of literacy services, including reading, writing, math, life and work skills, to help a diverse population of learners meet their needs and achieve their personal and employment-related goals.

Description:
The Center for Literacy provides a variety of adult education services including tutoring, GED training, family literacy, the Adult Diploma Program, English as a second language instruction, and many others. Volunteers are needed primarily as tutors to work one on one or in small groups with adult learners and to help those learners meet their educational goals. Volunteers receive comprehensive training at various sites within the Delaware Valley, and are requested to commit to at least six months of tutoring, meeting once or twice a week.

History:
Celebrating its 35th anniversary, the Center for Literacy is one of the nation's largest community-based, nonprofit adult literacy organizations. CFL has helped thousands of individuals and families achieve self-sufficiency, economic potential, and self-esteem with instruction in reading, writing, math, and English as a second language.
The Center for Literacy serves approximately 3,000 learners annually. With the support of nearly 400 volunteer tutors and over 40 dedicated staff members, students are able to achieve their personal and job-related goals. Life skills are included in the curriculum present learners with motivation and practical experience. CFL now serves the entire Delaware Valley, operating in more than 100 locations and providing a diverse range of adult education services.
