Bucks County Opportunity Council, Inc. (BCOC)mission is to help low-income people of Bucks County to achieve and maintain economic self-sufficiency.
Description:
BCOC has three key programs: 1)Emergency services to low-income people experiencing temporary crises--layoffs, brief illnesses, reduction of income--such as food, rent/mortgage/utility assistance, transportation, or child care. 2)Economic self-sufficiency program that provides long-term assistance and case management to low income individuals and families, addressing the following areas: income, employment, education, transportation, parenting/social functioning, substance abuse, mental health, health insurance, shelter and nutrition. 3)Weatherization program that helps Bucks County residents with limited incomes cut their fuel bills and conserve energy at no cost.
History:
BCOC was established in 1965 as part of the Federal Economic Opportunity Act. BCOC has both designed and implemented a wide variety of programs that have helped low-income residents in Bucks County overcome the barriers to economic self-sufficiency and lead more satisfying lives. Caring case managers have always strived to support and empower their clients while working on goals that the client has determined.
