Our vision is to empower the community and to aid in the creation of a society free from violence.

Our mission is to provide advocacy and counseling for all who have been affected by crimes against the person; and to promote sensitivity and awareness in the community through education.

Description:
VSC provides 24-hour crisis intervention to survivors of sexual violence and their significant others via our crisis hotline. At the request of clients we can provide hospital, police, and court accompaniments. We also provide crisis response to communities at the request of the police and/or a community member/group.

Services include 1:1 counseling and support groups for survivors and their significant others, in-person advocacy and support, assistance with Victim's Compensation and Victim Impact Statements, risk reduction/safety educational programs from Pre-K to college-age and professional trainings to health care, police and community agencies/groups to raise awareness and sensitivity.

Volunteers are needed to assist in all areas. Training is provided and criminal and child abuse record checks are required.

Services are provided without regard to age, race, national origin, gender, sexual preference, religion, or disability. All services are free and confidential.

History:
Victim Services Center was founded in 1974 by a small group of women concerned about the lack of a sensitive, uniform response to victims of rape and sexual assault. An Advocacy component was added in 1985 to meet the needs that had not previously been met in the county, providing comprehensive services to all crime victims, including assault, robbery, harassment and intimidation, and the families of homicide victims.
