The Center on Hearing And Deafness was founded in 1994 to help improve the lives of Deaf and hard of hearing people and their families in Chester and the surrounding Counties.
Description:
CHAD volunteers help Deaf and hard of hear people in just about any need. Our volunteer program covers Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties. CHAD Volunteers work with seniors, adults, teens and children in all settings and help in countless ways from visiting a hard of hearing senior to spending time with a Deaf hospice patient. Some volunteers receive additional training and participate in our prison program, visiting Deaf and hard of hearing inmates. If there is a Deaf or hard of hearing person in need, we know there is a kind and caring volunteer who wants to help. You don't have to know how to sign to be a CHAD volunteer!
History:
CHAD began in the basement of our founder's home in 1994. Even then it was clear that communication barriers were keeping Deaf and hard of hearing people from obtaining services that hearing people simply ask for. These needs have continued to focus our needs. CHAD offers Information & Referral, education classes including American Sign Language, and a ride range of social and mental health services.
