The recreation services program provides high quality year-round recreation programs and leisure activities to Newark residents and the surrounding community.
Description:
More than 400 recreation programs are offered yearly to serve the recreation needs and interests of all age and ability levels of pre-schoolers, youth, adults, and senior citizens. Annually over 11,500 participants register for class offerings and recreation activity areas including sports, fitness, day trips, special events, fine arts, special interest programs, dance, visual arts and nature. The City of Newark, Department of Parks and Recreation, has a great many volunteer opportunities available. We utilize volunteers in many of our exciting and fun activities.
History:
The City of Newark, Parks and Recreation Department has been in existence since 1968 and has consistently provided quality recreation programs and leisure activities to Newark residents and the surrounding community. This program is responsible for the evaluation and assessment of activity needs, activity planning and administration, publicity, registration of participants, and personnel recruitment and training.
