To educate and train a volunteer workforce of health professionals and community health volunteers to serve the citizens of Burlington County in the event of a public health emergency.

Description:
The Burlington County Medical Reserve Corps (BCMRC)enhances the County's emergency preparedness by ensuring that a trained group of healthcare professionals and community volunteers are ready to respond to public health emergencies.

Volunteers are needed from both health and non-health fields. We especially need volunteers to provide social work, interpretation, veterinary, religious and support services in addition to healthcare. Volunteers can live or work in Burlington County, New Jersey.

In a public health emergency, volunteers will be used to distribute antibiotics or vaccine. Volunteers and their families will be part of the First Responder Medication Distribution Plan and will receive prophylactic medications first during a public health emergency.

The time commitment is minimal. Volunteers are expected to complete training modules offered on line and at the Burlington County Health Department.

History:
The BCMRC was established in 2005 as part of a federal and state initiative to help support local area needs. The BCMRC is housed within the Burlington County Health Department. Your service is entirely voluntary and is covered by the New Jersey Emergency Health Powers Act.
