To lead the way in transforming how we relate to and raise babies and children by creating pilot projects that are easily reproduced anywhere in the world and that make a significant difference in providing every child and family the tools and opportunities to succeed in the 21st century..
Description:
Some of our initiatives are Baby & Child Massage. Though it is wildly becoming a fact that massage for babies and children enhances growth and development this has not made it common practice in our culture. The bias we have inherently inherited in regards to touch is robbing far too many children of this essential experience. We promote the benefits of massage for babies & children Transforming The Digital Divide Over 5,000 computers have now been collected, repaired, and distributed to economically challenged families, schools and social service organizations. We are the leading non-profit organization in our region. Though we are computer rich we are cash poor and our success has depended on the generous donation of computers and the wonderful work done by our volunteers. Our volunteers are well paid in smile, tears, sometimes hugs and the satisfaction they are making a difference in the lives of others. They are also offered free POSTURE PERFECT massage sessions. The Milton Olive Memorial Playground Project: In far too many of our region's neighborhoods a safe place to play is but a dream. At 9th & Indiana one of this region's most drug infested neighborhoods we are building a safe place for children to play. this is not a fun project (the work is hard and there is little to no support from the neighbors. It takes months of leg work just to get a truckload of dirt delivered. We need all the help we can find for this project... We need computer techies to letter stuffers anyone who wants to make a difference. Call 610-539-8480 or visit our web site at www.teamchildren.com
History:
The project began in 1978 when Dr Ida P Rolf the founder of Rolfing and Robert Toporek an advanced certified Rolf Practitioner began a project to demonstrate and document the benefits of this new medicine. Toporek published a monograph and award winning video "The Promise of Rolfing Children". Robert spent the next ten years focusing and expanding his work with families and groups. He worked with over 200 families. Many claim his work with them made a major developmental difference with their children. In 1993 Robert took his mission to the mean streets of 9th & Indiana formally known as the badlands. He offered free Rolfing and massage sessions to all the children of the neighborhood. Soon he began getting books and computers donated. The rest is history. NOW OVER 5,000 economically challenged individuals, families, and organizations, reaching more than 25,000 children have access to a computer.

Have worked as a volunteer at the Children's Project 2000 aka TeamChildren since 1999. I believe all children should have the best opportunities that technology can offer and there are millions of older machines that can be used. I wish all kids could have the same access that my own kids do. Technology does make a difference and it can happen one child at a time. posted by MTE on March 15, 2004 |
