Odyssey HealthCare is the second largest hospice in the United States. We attribute this to our outstanding service standards, which begin with our first priority: our patients. Our mission is fervently endeavored: "to serve all people at the end of life's journey".
Description:
The word "Odyssey" is defined as "a spiritual wandering or quest"; as our founders passionately named our company. Our Odyssey team is a group of dynamic, fun, compassionate professionals who specialize in death, dying and end-of-life care. We embrace all walks of life. We are able to provide comfort and palliative care to the elderly who suffer from diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Organ Failure, and other debilitating conditions. Adults who suffer from terminal illnesses such as Cancer, Hepatitis C, HIV, and AIDS are also comforted with careful pain management and visits from our compassionate staff. Our team is comprised of Volunteers, RN's (registered nurses), CNA's (certified nursing assistants), Social Workers, Counselors, Community Educators, an Admissions Coordinator, an Office Manager, and a General Manager. Our volunteers are prized and appreciated. Our volunteer coordinator educates, trains and counsels our volunteers. Each volunteer is carefully matched with a role that meets their comfort levels and goals.
History:
Odyssey's founders started the company without a name or business cards and with only a vision of becoming the leading hospice provider in the world. After weeks of brainstorming names for the company, they were on an airplane flight viewing the movie "Apollo 13" and a line caught their attention..."The Odyssey is dying", referring to the crippled spacecraft that needed to complete its intended journey. To get the craft safely home everyone on the team worked together from their various disciplines with the tools available to the astronauts in the capsule. Our founders were inspired and decided to name our company Odyssey HealthCare.
