The mission of Youth Service, Inc. (YSI) is to offer accessible, responsive, high-quality services to at-risk children and their families. YSI is dedicated to: providing community-based care, shelter and counseling to any age child, teen or family in crisis; restoring self-sufficiency, cultivating responsible parenting and helping create a future of hope.

Description:
Youth Service, Inc. is a private nonprofit child welfare agency dedicated to helping at-risk children and youth of all races and religions, and strengthen families.
For over 50 years, YSI's responsive and effective programs have helped the community's most vulnerable children and families.
YSI's services include: Youth Emergency Service (YES), a teen shelter; foster family care programs; teen mother/baby group home program; crisis nursery and respite care program; services to children in their own homes and their families; parenting education, counseling and advocacy programs; truancy and delinquency programs. YSI accepts court referrals for certain programs.


History:
YSI was founded in 1951 when Bethesda Children's Christian Home of Chestnut Hill merged with the Church Mission of Help. The Foulke and Long Institute joined YSI in 1961 and Sunnycrest Farm for Boys merged with the agency in 1971. In 1980, the Youth Emergency Service merged with YSI, followed by the Florence Crittenton Service of Philadelphia in 1981. The ABC Child Development Center and GRIT (Girl Renovators in Training) became part of YSI in 1990.
