Senior Victim Advocates assist senior victims of crime through the judicial system. Working to balance the scales of justice for victims.
Description:
As a program of the Department of Justice the volunteers work with the social workers, investigators and prosecutors preparing victims for court events. Volunteers are asked to call victims to ensure the court processes have been explained; accompany victims to all court appearances; and follow up after court to ensure that the victim understands what happened and what to expect next, if anything. Volunteers are provided with office space, equipment, training and support by the entire team.
History:
The Senior Victim Advocates have been working for several years with senior victims of crime. The advocates have had the opportunity to accompany victims to the three main courts in our state as well as lend a compassionate ear to a peer in crisis.
