Clean Air Council is a member-supported, non-profit environmental organization dedicated to protecting everyone's right to breathe clean air. The Council works through public education, community advocacy, and government oversight to ensure enforcement of environmental laws.
History:
Clean Air Council is a 501(c)(3) organization formed in 1967 by a group of forward-looking community leaders, policy makers, and progressive business leaders. Headquartered in Philadelphia and backed by more than 7,000 members, the Council works through public education, government oversight, and advocacy to protect everyone’s right to breathe clean air. The Bylaws, written in 1967, still guide the work of the Council today: “to inform and educate the public concerning the health, economic, and aesthetic effects of air pollution and the technological and legal tools available for its control.” True to its mission, the Council approaches air pollution systematically, as a problem with roots in everyday practices and with results that have broad and scarcely understood effects on public health.
