| Description: |

VSC is seeking board members that are committed to the agencies vision and mission. Expectations of potential board members:
- To accept and abide by the legal and fiscal responsibilities of the board as specified by organizational charter, bylaws, and state statutes and regulations
- To comply with the conflict-of-interest and disclosure policies.
- To devote time to learn how the agency functions — its uniqueness, strengths, needs, and its place in the industry — and share your knowledge and act as an informed advocate of the agency
- To support the agency’s fundraising efforts through personal giving, and to participate in the fundraising process
- To carefully prepare for, regularly attend, and actively participate in bi-monthly board meetings and committee assignments
- To maintain the confidential nature of board deliberations and to avoid acting as spokesperson for the entire board unless specifically authorized to do so
- To understand the role of the board as a policy-making body and to avoid participation in administration policy
- To vote according to one’s individual conviction, to challenge the judgment of others when necessary, yet to be willing to support the decision of the board and work with fellow board members in a spirit of cooperation
- To make judgments always on the basis of what is best for the organization as a whole
- To refrain from actions and involvement that might prove embarrassing to the organization and to resign if such actions or involvement develops
