The mission of Trevor's Campaign for the Homeless is to help homeless families achieve independence by offering a home for the present and hope for the future through comprehensive programs for children and
adults which empower them for success.
Description:
Trevor's Place, the Campaign's emergency and transitional facility for homeless mothers and children located at 1624 Poplar Street in Philadelphia, offers a comprehensive program that addresses intervention, human development, parenting, education, vocation and permanent housing procurement. A trained and certified staff, which includes resident counselors and social workers, ensure that Trevor's Place is an effective environment for promoting development and independence in formerly-homeless families. Residency time varies according to the family's specific needs and demonstrated effort, but the average stay is approximately nine months.
Our program objectives include:
- Create a challenging yet suportive community where residents prepare for independent living
- Meet all basic human needs for children and adults
- Foster family integration and interpersonal growth
- Provide experience in community living, cooperation, and conflict resolution
- Assist individuals in their utilization of community resources in order to increase quality of life
- Empower residents to conquer any debilitating addictions
- Help residents obtain/maximize education, job training and employment
History:
Trevor's Campaign began in 1983 with the dream and compassion of one small boy, Trevor Ferrell, to help the homeless by distributing blankets and clothing to the needy. Through hundreds of generous citizens and businesses, this "campaign" grew into places to stay and an array of services. Since its humble beginnings, the Campaign has reached 1,800 homeless individuals and has grown in its approach and sophistication to how best enable homeless families to regain self-sufficiency. A four-pronged approach has been developed to address the problem of homelessness: outreach, housing and services, redistribution and public advocacy and education.
