The mission of 21 Acres is to cultivate, demonstrate and advance systems that support sustainable agriculture.
Our land and our programs teach and inspire us to interact with our environment in ecologically sensitive ways that sustain our local farms and help us benefit from healthy, locally grown food and farm products.

Description:
The 21 Acres Center is committed to making local, sustainable-grown food a cornerstone of healthy lifestyles and communities. While rapid urbanization in what used to be rural valleys in the regions is putting local farms at risk of disappearing forever, 21 Acres has restored farmland once overgrown with blackberries and other invasive weeds. The land now supports 80 community garden plots and a farm growing food for families, market, schools and hunger relief.

The Center for Local Food and Sustainable Living will feature a cutting-edge "green-built" facility that will feature a year round farmers market, community kitchen and space for its popular classes on urban farming techniques and sustainability-providing vital infrastructure and education to help keep small farms in business.

History:
The organization began in 2001 as Friends of the Woodinville Farmers Market, created to find a permanent home for the local Market which had been located in a parking lot at City Hall for many years.
The property was purchased from King County which had designated certain parcels within the Growth Management Act as part of a preservation program, the Agriculture Production District.
Upon purchase the Board realized many more opportunities lie within this fertile farm land than just housing a farmers market. We could grow food, prepare food, store and sell food and educate the community about locally grown food and its impact in our lives. Thus, the organization was legally changed to “21 Acres" in 2005.
